At Shinra Headquarters, Reeve is standing before President Shinra's desk on the 70th floor. Heidegger walks up to join them.

プレジデント神羅
準備のほうは？

ハイデッカー
ガハハ！！　順調順調！　実行部隊はタークスです

リーブ
プレジデント！　本当にやるのですか？　たかだか数人の組織をつぶすのに……

プレジデント神羅
いまさらナニかね、リーブ君

リーブ
……いいえ
しかし、私は都市開発責任者としてミッドガルの建造、運営のすべてにかかわってきました。　ですから……

ハイデッカー
リーブ、そういう個人的な問題は朝のうちにトイレで流しちまうんだな！

リーブ
市長も反対しているわけであり……

ハイデッカー
市長！？
このビルの中でボンボンとメシをくってるあいつか！？　あいつを、まだ市長と呼ぶのか？
それでは失礼します！

Heidegger salutes and walks out. Reeve takes a few steps after him, but doesn't follow.

プレジデント神羅
君はつかれているんだよ。　休暇をとって旅行でも行ってなさい

Reeve looks at him, and then walks off.

プレジデント神羅
７番街を破壊する。　アバランチの仕業として報道する。　神羅カンパニーによる救助活動。
フフフ……　かんぺきだ

Having fallen through Don Corneo's trap door, Cloud, Aeris, and Tifa land in the sewers beneath Sector 6. Cloud goes to each of his companions in turn.

クラウド
だいじょうぶか？

エアリス
うん

クラウド
だいじょうぶか？

ティファ
もう！　サイテーね、これ

エアリス
ま、最悪の事態からはのがれられた……

There is a low growling noise.

エアリス
……でもないみたい

The Don's pet monster, Aps, attacks them, but they fight and defeat it.

ティファ
もうダメだわ……　マリン……　バレット……　スラムの人たち

エアリス
あきらめない、あきらめない。　柱、壊すなんて　そんなに簡単じゃない、でしょ？

ティファ
…………そうね……　そうよね！　まだ時間はあるわよね

They make their way through the sewers, climbing out to find themselves in Sector 7's Train Graveyard.

クラウド
エアリス。　すっかり巻きこんでしまって……

エアリス
ここから帰れ！　な～んて言わないでね

ティファ
え～と……明かりのついている車両を抜けて行けば出られそうね

Winding their way through the abandoned trains, they make it to the all-but-deserted train station.

Station man
プレートが落ちるって噂を聞きましたです。　長年親しんだこの駅ですから　どうしてもはなれられません……
いったい、どうして……？　うそであってほしいです

They run on past the station to the gated base of the pillar. A small crowd is gathered by the fence, and gunfire sounds from the staircase adjacent to the pillar.

ティファ
まにあった！　柱が立ってる！

クラウド
まて！　上から……聞こえないか？

エアリス
……銃声？

The camera pans up the length of the pillar to where Barret is fighting at the very top of the stairs. Wedge is with him, but he falls from the platform to land near Cloud and the others. Everyone runs over.

クラウド
だいじょうぶか？　……ウェッジ！！

ウェッジ
……クラウドさん…。　俺の名前…覚えてくれたっすね
バレットさんが…上で戦ってるっす。　手をかしてやって……
クラウドさん……　めいわくかけて、すいません…っす

Cloud shakes his head and stands.

クラウド
のぼるぞ！
エアリス！　ウェッジをたのむ

ティファ
エアリス、おねがい
この近くに私たちの店『セブンスヘブン』があるの
そこにマリンっていう名前の小さな女の子がいるから……

エアリス
わかった。　安全な場所へ、ね

Tifa turns to the crowd.

ティファ
ここは危険です！　みんな早く柱からはなれて！
７番街から離れて！

Everyone disperses but no one leaves the area.

エアリス (crouching next to Wedge)
だいじょうぶ。　ここはまかせて

Soldier 2
あ、あの……　これが、僕の仕事だから…　ギリギリまでここにいないとならないんだ

Redhead
うん…　責任感の強いあなた、好きよ。　私、そばについてるわ

Shopkeeper
オロオロ…　柱壊れちゃうんですか
こわいんですけど　あんたたちのためにね
ほんとにやばくなったら　逃げだしますから。　めったに見れるもんじゃないですし

Man by Fence
ウウッ……　守ってくれよ。　俺の素敵で不思議な場所

Soldier 1
おう！　これが俺の最後の仕事だ！　登ってけ！！
こんなことになるなんてな！　いい気分じゃねえ！　明日、じひょうだ！

If Cloud tries to leave the area...

ティファ
クラウド！！　早くしなきゃ、バレットが…

If Cloud and Tifa start up but then come back down, the people will be gathered outside the fence.

Soldier 2
あ、あの……　アバランチの人たちだいじょうぶかな？

Redhead
うん…　あなた、ふるえてるのね？　やさしい人…　好きよ

Cloud and Tifa climb the staircase, running into Biggs and Jessie, both wounded, along the way.

ビッグス
クラウド……　やっぱり……　星の命なんて……　どうなろうと……　興味ないか？

クラウド
- 悪いけど興味ない
- それよりケガが……

ジェシー
あ……　クラウド……　最後に……　話せて良かった……

クラウド
- 最後だなんて……
- そうか……

Cloud and Tifa reach the top of the pillar to join Barret.

バレット
ティファ！　クラウド！　来てくれたのか！
気をつけろ！　やつら　ヘリで襲ってきやがる

ティファ
本格的にくる前に　装備を整えておいたほうがいいわ！
さっそく来たわ！

The helicopter passes overhead, and Barret fires at it. Reno jumps down and runs over to the control panel.

レノ
おそかった、と
このスイッチを押すと……

He pushes it.

はい、おしまい！　作業終了

ティファ
解除しなくちゃ！　クラウド！　バレット！　おねがい！

レノ
そういうわけにはいかないぞ、と
タークスのレノさまの邪魔は誰もさせないぞっ……　と

They enter a battle with Reno, who casts his Pyramid spell on someone.

レノ
こわせるものなら　こわしてみろ、と

The fight continues until Reno checks his watch.

レノ
そろそろ時間だぞ、と

Reno runs past Tifa and jumps from the platform. Tifa runs to the controls.

ティファ
クラウド！　止めかたがわからないの。　やってみて！

バレット
くっ！　時限爆弾か！

クラウド
……ただの時限爆弾じゃない

The helicopter rises up from below with Tseng of the Turks on its side rig and Aeris behind him.

ツォン
そのとおり。　それを操作するのは難しい
どこかのバカ物が勝手にふれると困るからな

ティファ
おねがい、とめて！

ツォン
クックックッ……
緊急用プレート解放システムの設定と解除は神羅役員会の決定なしではできないのだ

バレット
ゴチャゴチャうるせえ！

He fires at Tseng, who remains unfazed.

ツォン
そんなことをされると大切なゲストがケガするじゃないか

Aeris lifts her head, and Barret lowers his gun arm.

ティファ
エアリス！！

ツォン
おや、知り合いなのか？
最後に会えて良かったな。　私に感謝してくれ

クラウド
エアリスをどうする気だ

ツォン
さあな
われわれタークスにあたえられた命令は『古代種』の生き残りをつかまえろ、ということだけだ
ずいぶん長い時間がかかったが　やっとプレジデントに報告できる

エアリス (leaning forward)
ティファ、だいじょうぶだから！　あの子、だいじょうぶだから！

Tseng turns and slaps Aeris, and she falls back.

ティファ
エアリス！

エアリス
だからはやく逃げて！

ツォン
クックックッ！　そろそろ始まるぞ。　逃げきれるかな？

The helicopter flies off just as the first explosions go off and the pillar starts to come apart.

ティファ
上のプレートが落ちてきたら　ひとたまりもないわ。　いそがなくちゃ！

They all spend a few moments frantically looking for an escape route, and then Barret jumps over to a cable attached to the platform.

バレット
おい、このワイヤーを使って脱出できるぜ！

They all climb onto the cable and swing out as the plate comes crashing down behind them. The camera pans back to show President Shinra watching its destruction from his office as he listens to opera music.

Cloud, Tifa, and Barret land in the Sector 6 playground, now littered with smoking debris from Sector 7. They stand and walk slowly to the gate that once led to Sector 7.

バレット
マリン！　マリン！！
マリーーーン！
ビッグス！
ウェッジ！！
ジェシー！！
こんちくしょう！
こんちくしょう！！
こんちくしょうーー！！！！
なんだ、こんなもの！
うおぉぉーー！！

クラウド
おい、バレット！

ティファ
バレット！

バレット
うおぉぉーー！！

Cloud and Tifa run over to him.

クラウド
おい！

ティファ
バレット、もうやめて……　おねがい、バレット

バレット
うわぁぁぁーー！！！

He fires several rounds at the rubble, then falls to his knees.

クッ！　ちくしょう……

Some time passes... Having settled down some, Barret is seated at the base of the slide, and Cloud and Tifa stand nearby.

バレット
マリン……

ティファ
………　ねぇ、バレット……
マリンは、マリンはだいじょうぶだと思うの

バレット
……え？

ティファ
エアリスが言ってたわ。　『あの子、だいじょうぶだから』って、マリンのことよ、きっと

Barret gets to his feet.

バレット
ほ、本当か！！

ティファ
でも……

バレット
ビッグス……　ウェッジ……　ジェシー……

クラウド
……あの３人は柱の中にいた

バレット
わかってる……
でもよ、でもよ！　いっしょに戦ってきた仲間だ！
死んじまったなんて……　思いたくねえ！

ティファ
……７番街の人たちも

バレット
ああ、ヒドイもんだぜ
オレたちを倒すために街ひとつ　つぶしちまうんだからな。　いったい何人死んだんだ……

ティファ
……私たちのせい？　アバランチがいたから？　関係ない人たちまで……

バレット
ちがう！　ちがうぜ！　ティファ！！
なにもかも神羅のやつらがやったことじゃねえか！

At this point, Cloud turns away and folds his arms pensively.

バレット
自分たちの金や権力のために星の命を吸い取る悪党ども！
その神羅をつぶさない限り　この星は死んじまうんだ！
神羅を倒すまでオレたちの戦いはおわらねえ！！

ティファ
……わからない

バレット
オレが言ってることわからねえのか！？

ティファ
ちがう……　わからないのは自分の……　気持ち

バレット
おまえはどうなんだ？

クラウド
……

Cloud walks off towards Sector 5 without answering.

バレット
おい！
あいつ、どこへ？

ティファ
あっ！　エアリスのこと！

バレット
ああ、あの姉ちゃんか。　何者なんだ？

ティファ
……私もよく知らない。　でも、マリンのことをエアリスに頼んだの

バレット
そうだ！　マリン！！

Barret starts after Cloud, but stops when Tifa doesn't follow immediately.

バレット
ティファ。　もう、あともどりはできねえんだ

He turns and runs after Cloud. Tifa follows with a glance back over her shoulder. Up ahead, Cloud is making his way through Sector 6.

ティファ
クラウド！

Cloud stops to let Tifa and Barret catch up.

バレット
マリンのところへ連れてってくれ！

ティファ
エアリスを助けにいくのね？

クラウド
ああ……　でも、その前に　確かめたいことがあるんだ

ティファ
なに？

クラウド
……古代種

The screen goes black momentarily.

われこそ古代種の血をひきし者。　この星の正統なる後継者！

クラウド
セフィロス……？

He falls to one knee.

ティファ
だいじょうぶ？

バレット
しっかりしてくれよ！
